Poem for my Grandmother,

July 03 2019

Running on the shoreline is when I cast the last of your ashes.

I let them run in the wind,

Sand dropping on the ground, and dust in the air.

I left you in a place I can visit, time and time again.

There are so few places we held together.

Here we have a place for tea,

For visits,

For the reminder you always give me,

The slow down,

The love-deep eye gaze,

Your blue eyes sparkling,

I will never forget.

How can I?

Today we walked arm in arm,

Even though you left this earth almost a year ago.

You told me, so clearly, whispering on the wind,

“Slow down, honey, I can’t walk that fast.”

I slowed, and immediately saw you smiling.

Saw you in the hospital

Saw me curled up, as best as I could, in your lap.

How I love you still.

Always like a child at your feet

My dearest Grandmother,

I will always be like a child at your feet.
